Note: Not technically sf but Loïe Fuller was the sensation of the 1900 Paris Worlds Fair as “la fée éléctricité,” the Spirit of Electricity, doing the Serpentine Dance as gels played colored lights over the stretched fabric on her arms. At least a dozen films of her are known, but this one has the best hand-tinted color and the illusion of her appearing and disappearing to open and close the performance; Georges Méliès had filmed a version of this dance, also in hand-tinted color, as La colonne de feu [The Pillar of Fire] in 1899, available on YouTube
